Danyael is a journalist and writer in Calgary, Alberta. Her eclectic award-winning work appears in leading publications across North America.
Her first illustrated children's book, A Magical Passover Starring the Tooth Fairy, was released by RE:BOOKS Publishing on March 17, 2026. It has received wonderful reviews in The Seaboard Review, the J, and the Alberta Jewish News. It is also dueling Judy Blume's Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret and Sesame Street's It's Passover, Grover for the No. 1 spot in Jewish Children's Fiction on Amazon.
In the magazine world, she's penned stories about her experience at a THC-infused restaurant dinner party, pre-legalization; scuba diving with the whale shark in Belize; getting her male dog shagged at the off-leash park...
A competitive runner in every distance, Danyael finds fresh takes in covering the running scene -- running in the metaverse, Terry Fox, Canada's coolest races shirts over the years... She's run the 2023 Toronto Waterfront Marathon, 2024 Chicago Marathon, 2025 Boston Marathon and, most recently, her third Abbott World Marathon Major in New York on November 2, 2025.
Former gigs over the years include: Photo essayist and Trends columnist for Swerve Magazine; Book reviewer for The Calgary Herald; and, Restaurant columnist for Fast Forward Weekly. In writing about Calgary's restaurant scene, she's braved the local cowboy fare of bull testicles and served as a food critic panel member for Avenue Magazine's Annual Restaurant Awards.
In 2023, the International Regional Media Association awarded bronze for Best Editorial Package to Danyael and a team of writers and illustrators for their contributions to Avenue Magazine's June 2022 Innovation issue. She has also twice won Honourable Mention at the National Magazine Awards for her articles in Saturday Night and CalgaryInc.
Backstory: Danyael got her start in journalism in Toronto at Canadian Living Magazine, where she held several editorial positions. While there she acted as editorial coordinator on the book Growing with Your Child (Ballantine, 1998), the magazine's first in a series of parenting books. A move to St. Joseph Media landed her the position of assistant managing editor of HealthWatch Magazine.
